Marketing & Communications Lead (Contract)
Overview:

Study Hall is a multidisciplinary design agency based in Oakland, CA. We practice the unconventional applications of conventional disciplines to create distinctive, effective, and irresistible creative. We’re looking for a Marketing & Communications Lead to shape how Study Hall shows up in the world, turning our work, thinking, and momentum into a clear and compelling signal across content, social, and visibility.

Position:

At Study Hall, the Marketing & Communications Lead owns how we present ourselves externally. You are responsible for translating our work into stories, building a consistent presence, and making sure what we do is seen, understood, and felt. This role spans both strategy and execution. You will shape narrative, create content, and push it into the world. You will work closely with leadership to extract the best of what we are already doing and make it visible and compelling. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy while staying closely connected to the work and the team.

Responsibilities:
  • Social & Content Presence:
    • Own and run studio social channels
    • Build and maintain a consistent content cadence
    • Turn active and past work into clear, compelling stories
    • Grow follower base and engagement
  • Narrative & Content Development:
    • Develop case studies, posts, and light long form content
    • Help articulate point of view, not just document work
    • Support content strategy and execution across channels
    • Develop novel ideas for outreach and engagement
  • PR & Visibility:
    • Identify and pursue relevant press and award opportunities
    • Package work for submissions and external visibility
    • Build relationships selectively with press and partners
  • Systems & Workflow:
    • Build and maintain an editorial calendar
    • Maintain organized content files and infrastructure
    • Develop workflows from idea through execution
  • Leadership Support:
    • Support founder voice and thought leadership
    • Provide writing and editing support as needed
    • Ensure the studio shows up clearly, consistently, and with strong taste

Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of marketing, social media, and content strategy
  • Interest in brand, design, and creative industries
  • Proven experience growing a brand’s presence and audience
  • Comfortable shaping narrative and executing output
  • Strong writing skills with a clear and distinct voice
  • Creative thinker with a sense of humor
  • Self starter who can operate independently and move quickly
Logistics
  • Location: NYC/Brooklyn or SF preferred, open to remote
  • Schedule: up to 20 hours per week to start
  • Structure: contract
  • Reports to Managing Director
