Study Hall is a multidisciplinary design agency based in Oakland, CA. We practice the unconventional applications of conventional disciplines to create distinctive, effective, and irresistible creative. We’re looking for a Senior 2D Motion Designer to build design-led motion systems across brand, identity, and digital experiences.

At Study Hall, the Senior 2D Motion Designer is a core creative contributor focused on motion. You are responsible for translating design into motion systems that feel intentional, expressive, and technically sharp. You interpret and extend creative direction, helping define how brands move across identity, campaigns, and digital experiences. You work closely with Creative Directors, Designers, and Producers to bring brand systems to life through motion. This role is hands-on and craft-focused, with an expectation to contribute to both thinking and execution while raising the level of work around you.

• Motion & Creative Development:
  
  • Contribute to concept development and creative exploration
  • Translate brand strategy and visual systems into motion language
  • Bring references, taste, and point of view into the work
  • Help define how motion shows up across a brand
  • Extend identity systems into motion with strong attention to typography, composition, and hierarchy
• Systems & Execution:
  • Design and build animation systems, toolkits, and frameworks
  • Execute motion across brand, product, and campaign work
  • Balance concept, craft, and technical precision
  • Maintain strong control over timing, pacing, transitions, and feel
• Craft & Output:
  
  • Produce work that is clean, considered, and technically strong
  • Push beyond default solutions into something more distinctive
  • Maintain consistency across outputs and touchpoints
  • Step in where needed to elevate final work
  • Ensure motion feels designed, not just animated
• Team Collaboration:
  
  • Work closely with designers, strategists, and production teams
  • Support and elevate other creatives where needed
  • Take direction well while contributing your own perspective
  • Communicate clearly and keep momentum moving
• Client Readiness:
  
  • Prepare motion work for presentations and delivery
  • Help make motion legible and compelling within broader narratives
  • Occasionally present or speak to your work
• Craft Development & Tools:
  
  • Maintain strong proficiency in:
    • After Effects
    • Premiere
    • Figma
  • Experience with Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar is preferred
  • Familiarity with interactive or real-time motion such as Rive or Three.js is a plus
  • Stay current with tools, workflows, and emerging technologies including AI

• Strong portfolio demonstrating motion systems and brand work
• Strong foundations in graphic design, typography, and layout
• Clear sense of timing, pacing, and visual storytelling

• Able to operate independently while staying aligned with direction
